The first Glengyle distillery was founded around 1872/1873 by William Mitchell after a clash with his brother John which led him to leave Springbank. Closed in 1925, it was rebuilt in 2002 and opened in 2004 on the same site. Oddly enough, the rights to bottle Glengyle malts belong to Loch Lomond, who also own nearby Glen Scotia, which is why the whiskeys produced are sold as “Kilkerran”. Curiosity: The stills used are still second-hand ones bought from the Ben Wyvis distillery
