Founded in 1896-1897 on a hill overlooking the River Tay in Pertshire by Tommy and Alexander Dewar, sons of John Dewar, founder of Dewar & Sons of Perth. They were among the first distributors to bottle their own blends, the choice of location in the heart of the Southern Highlands north of Perth is due to an emotional nature: their father was born here in 1806. Curiosity: The names with the prefix “Aber” indicate that in the past the area was inhabited by the Picts, before a tribe known as “Scotti” invaded the area. Also here is “Dewar’s World of Whiskey”, the visitor center that showcases the family’s work. Although the production is intended for the blend, the producers themselves refer to this malt as “The Golden Dram”.
