“Full and excellent quality” was the 100-year-old Bowmore slogan. Its origins are traced back to 1779, which would make it one of the oldest still functioning distilleries. Passed by several owners, it is now in the hands of the Suntory group which has changed the original features a lot over time. Curiosity: the malt is broken up before being dried by a very smoky fire which gives it its main characteristic. During the 80s and until about the 90s, the too floral characteristics of the malt did not appeal to the usual consumers who gave a not too gentle nickname to the malt: “FWP” meaning “French Whore Perfume”
