Founded in 1898 by James Carle and William Simpson, it is now owned by Diageo. Used for the creation of the White Horse blend, it has a history without extreme peculiarities and some changes of ownership. With few official bottlings, it is present in the “Flora & Fauna” collection. Curiosity: Glen Elgin had a troubled birth: built near a source of water that will prove unreliable, it also had to face a transport problem since the railway that was to be built nearby was never built. This lack forced the distillery to have a person responsible for the maintenance of lights and machinery accessed with the use of paraffin until the mid-twentieth century. With all the problems mentioned above, the distillery was sold after only a few months of life for 4000 pounds. The founders had spent 13,000.
