Built in 1797 by Thomas Simpson, this makes it one of the last active distilleries of the eighteenth century. The first change of ownership took place in 1837: bought by John Mason & CO as its whiskey was a key element of the Vat69 blend. Bought by DCL in 1943, after another change of ownership, it was closed in 1968. It was saved by Stanley P. Morrison in 1973 before joining the Suntory group in 1984. Curiosity: for some time it was known as “Old Meldrum”

It stands in the place of an old tannery
