Founded in 1825 by George Cooper who sold it two years later, like many distilleries it has had a long series of owners: the most important events were a premature closure in 1837 and then bought in 1852 by Alexander Miln Thompson. Also passed through the hands of Hiram Walkers and Sons, it was suspended in 2000. Three years later the current owner Angus Dundee bought it and reopened it.

Since 2005 he has been working 24 hours a day every day Before 2000 it was used for the blend “Stewart’s Cream of the Barley”

A hallmark of the distillery is the red chimney, although it does not offer guided tours.
