Founded in 1826 by a company led by James Allardes, after only ten years it was destroyed by a fire: from that moment it was rebuilt and controlled by a branch of the Grant family until 1960. It was sold to William Teacher & Sons but was suspended in 1996. until 2002. Bought by Pernod Ricard in 2005, it has been owned by the Benriach Distillery Company since 2008. Fun Fact: Together with Glenfarclas and Springbank, it was one of the last distilleries in the third millennium to still use coal. Today it produces non-peaty whiskeys, but in the past there is a level of 14 ppm of peat.
